KARACHI, April 26: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday admitted for hearing an appeal filed by the activists of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan against their conviction in a prison van attack case and issued notice to state.
Mohammad Faisal, Sabir Ali Waseem, Mazharul Hassan, Muzamil and Malik Tassduq along with Mohammad Faisal were sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court in Karachi for killing two persons, including a policeman in attack on prisoner van in 2002.
The prosecution charged that the appellants attacked a prisoner van carrying some undertrial prisoners belonging to banned sectarian organizations for their release near Bohrapir. A police constable, Shakeel Arshad, and undertrial prisoner Saqib were killed while as many as nine persons were injured in the attack.—PPI
