Equality sought in UN

UNITED NATIONS, April 26: Saying that the United States and other western nations could bring about a virtual shutdown of the United Nations over reforms and budget issues, the spokesman for the G-77 group of 132 nations plus China on Wednesday affirmed the right of all member states to participate in decision-making process on equal footing.

At a press conference on behalf of G-77 plus China in the UN General Assembly, Ambassador Dumisani Kumalo of South Africa rejected the argument by the developed countries leaders that they should have more say in the UN decision-making process since they contribute almost 82 per cent of the world body’s budget.
