Pentangular Cup: Sami and Wasim help Bankers lift title

LAHORE, April 25: Test fast bowler Mohammad Sami produced an inspired burst to help National Bank claim the Pentangular Cup with a crushing innings and 181-run defeat of Karachi Harbour in the last league match of the tournament at the Qadhafi Stadium on Tuesday.

Sami, bidding to regain his place in the England-bound Pakistan squad, captured six for 48 as the luckless Karachi Harbour were bundled out for 83 in the second innings.

Sami received excellent support from fellow speedster Wasim Khan, who followed his six for 48 in the first innings with four for 57 to end up with a match haul of 10 for 114.

Earlier, the bankers added a further 86 to their overnight total of 427 for eight to be all out for 513.

Off-spinner Atif Maqbool claimed four for 125.

National Bank, who won the Patron’s Trophy earlier in the season, topped the standings with 33 points while Faisalabad remained runners-up with 27 points.

The bankers were derserving recipients of the winners’ cash prize of Rs600,000. Faisalabad pocketed Rs300,000.

Naumanullah of National Bank was declared best batsman for scoring 354 runs while Sialkot’s Asim Butt was adjudged the best bowler with a haul of 27 wickets.

Misbahul Haq and Mohammad Salman, both from Faisalabad, were named as best fielder and wicketkeeper, respectively. All four individual award winners were given Rs25,000 each.
