KARACHI: Notice issued in contempt case

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 25: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday issued the federal establishment secretary a showcause notice in a contempt application alleging that the Central Selection Board has failed to convene as directed to consider a promotion case.

Applicant Haseebul Haq of income tax department submitted that a division bench, comprising Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Ali Sain Dino Metlo, had ordered the selection board on Feb 3 to meet within a month to decide on his promotion to Grade-20 ‘honestly and fairly assigning valid and proper reasons for its decision.’

Earlier, the applicant recalled that the respondent board had wilfully ignored a Federal Service Tribunal order in his favour and it was for implementation of the FST order that he approached the high court in its extraordinary jurisdiction.

He requested the court to restrain the respondent board and the establishment division from issuing any notification of promotion of officers of his group pending a decision on his case.

A division bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Gulzar Ahmed, directed that a show cause notice be issued to the establishment secretary for May 2.
