KARACHI: Media people questioned in blast investigation

KARACHI, April 25: Press photographers and cameramen of private television channels were questioned by the team headed by Inspector General of Sindh Jehangir Mirza at the latter's office here on Tuesday in connection with the Nishtar Park bombing.
Forty-nine people, including religious scholars, were killed and more than 100 people injured in the explosion at the Eid Miladun Nabi gathering in Nishtar Park on April 11. Police believed it was a suicide bombing.
The press photographers, who attended the meeting and were present at the time of explosion, were summoned at the Central Police Office by the provincial police chief in the evening where senior police officers of the investigation wing including DIG Investigation Manzoor Mughal were present.
The press photographers were questioned as part of investigation into the case.
Police had found a severed head from the park following the explosion and believed that the head might be of suicide attacker. However, police failed to establish identity of the suspected suicide bomber.
The investigation team, assigned to investigate into the Nishtar Park bombing case, had failed to solve the earlier cases of Faizan-i-Madina stampede killing 29 women and children, and the car bombing at the US consulate killing four people, including a US diplomat. The same team had also not found any clue to the killers of Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai, Mufti Jameel, Munawar Suhrawardi, Abdullah Murad and other prominent personalities.
