Pakistan takes command of coalition task force today

ISLAMABAD, April 23: Pakistan on Monday will take command of the Coalition Task Force 150 (CTF-150), a regional maritime security force responsible for operations in the Gulf of Oman, Gulf of Aden, the Red Sea and the North Arabian Sea.

The handover will take place in Bahrain where Pakistan Fleet Commander Admiral Asif Humayun and senior navy officers have arrived.

Inter-Services Public Relations Director-General Major-Gen Shaukat Sultan, who is in Bahrain, told Dawn that Pakistan would command the CTF-150 for four months.

The command of the multinational task force is given to members on rotation basis.

“In taking command of CTF-150, Pakistan is again showing its strong commitment to regional security,” US ambassador Ryan C. Crocker said while congratulating the country at the impending takeover at a reception over the weekend.—Q.A.
