KARACHI: ‘Black day’ in colleges today


KARACHI, April 23: Students and teachers of all the city colleges are observing a ‘black day’ on Monday against the hooliganism and violence in educational institutions of the city.

In this regard, an IJT spokesman said on Sunday that the IJT would stand by the teachers’ side to observe the black day in all colleges of the city on Monday.

He said that black flags would be hoisted on college buildings and students would wear black armbands.

He said that protest demonstrations would be held in colleges, while special lectures in this regard would be delivered in classrooms.

The spokesman said that those damaging the peace and tranquillity of the educational institutions deserved no sympathy and leniency. He said that the IJT activists would observe black day against the disrespect of teachers by hooligans, as well as, killing of IJT activist in the Government Commerce College.

He charged that the government was not serious to take the culprits to task.

He said that both students and teachers were of the opinion that a coalition partner of the provincial government was patronizing the activities of the anti-social elements in educational institutes of Karachi.

He said that it was the joint demand of teachers and students that the killers of Akmal Shirazi be arrested and protection provided to the teachers, students and Ulema.

He also demanded sacking of the Sindh governor.

Meanwhile, an IJT statement issued here on Sunday said that a Syed Akmal Sami Martyrdom Conference would be held at the Government College of Commerce on Monday.—PPI
