150 injured in BD strike

By Our Correspondent

DHAKA, April 23: Over 150 people were injured in Bangladesh on Sunday in clashes between striking supporters of the Awami League and police.

The police picked up about 50 people from different places in the capital on charge of picketing.

Many vehicles were damaged and some were torched during the strike, called by the Awami League.

The opposition had given a call for the strike after Thursday’s police action against opposition activists trying to enforce a strike called to pressure the government into accepting proposals for reforming electoral laws..
