KACP for immediate ceasefire in Kashmir
LAHORE, April 22: The Kashmir Action Committee Pakistan has called for immediate ceasefire by all concerned in Kashmir and demilitarisation of the state.
A resolution, adopted at a general body meeting held with its president Justice Sharif Hussain Bokhari in the chair recently, said the ceasefire and demilitarisation in Kashmir would provide great relief to the people of the state and they would feel safe and secure that was necessary for peaceful solution of the issue.
Emphasising the need for resolving the Kashmir issue through peaceful means the committee supported the current peace process between India, Pakistan and other channels. “This is the only path to peace and prosperity.” However, it warned the government of Pakistan to remain vigilant so that process of dialogue was not unnecessarily prolonged and made more complex in order to evade resolution indefinitely as desired by India.
The committee endorsed the proposal of reunifying the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir, formation of autonomous regions within the state on the principle of democracy, federalism and devolution of powers. APHC chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had discussed the proposal with the KACP members during his recent visit to Lahore.
The resolution also asked the governments of India and Pakistan to facilitate free and frequent travelling of the Kashmiris across the LoC by simplifying the documentation procedure for travelling. It urged the Hurriyat leadership to iron out their differences and unite for the cause of Kashmir and make it more representative so that their voice is heard globally. —Reporter
