KARACHI: Man held for killing three in Korangi

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 21: A man killed his sister and brother-in-law, and their relative for marrying against the wishes of the family in Korangi on Friday. The incident was described by the police as a case of ‘honour killing’.

Police said that Bakht Zameen, 24, and Gul Sher, 28, had married some two years back against the will of the girl’s family. They tied the knot in court in Dera Ghazi Khan and decided to settle down in the same city.

Police said that when Bakhat Zameen left her parents’ house to marry Gul Sher, her father Umar Khan lodged an FIR against the couple under the Zina Ordinance at the Korangi police station.

Police said the couple was informed through some family friends that the girl’s family wanted to settle the issue by offering a compromise. Subsequently, they were asked to come to the city by the girl’s parents.

Police said Bakht Zameen, her husband Gul Sher, and his elder brother Abdul Khaliq arrived in the city at Sohrab Goth on Friday morning, adding that all three reached the house of Umar Khan in Gulzar Colony Sector 8-F near Muhammadi Masjid.

However, before they could settle the issue, the girl’s brother, Ali Mohammad, appeared on the scene with his accomplices and opened fire with his revolver killing the couple and Abdul Khaliq.

Following the incident, his accomplices managed to flee from the spot, but Ali Muhammad decided to stay till the police arrived and arrested him. The revolver used in the killing was also taken confiscated.

A duty officer at the Korangi police station remarked that the suspect, Ali Muhammad, appeared to be in a joyous mood instead of having guilt over what he had done.

Police shifted the bodies to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem.

Police said that since no one turned up from the victims’ side for lodging a report, an FIR 192/2006 was registered on behalf of the state against Ali Muhammad and others at the Korangi police station.

Police said that following the autopsy, the bodies were sent to the Edhi morgue. Efforts are being made to contact the family of the groom in D G Khan so they could claim the bodies for burial, a senior police official of the Korangi Town said.

DIES: Another victim of the Site fire incident, which has so far claimed the lives of three firemen, succumbed to his wounds at the Civil Hospital on Friday, putting the death toll to four.

Police said Rafiullah, a security guard, who had also suffered burns during a fire that broke out at a sub-station at an industrial unit in Site, died.

He was admitted at the Burns Centre of the Civil Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds, hospital sources said.

CRUSHED: An unidentified man was crushed to death beneath a locomotive at the Drigh Road Railway Station on Friday.

Police said the victim was apparently crossing the tracks when he was crushed by an approaching locomotive. Police sent his body to the JPMC for legal formalities.
