Islamabad, NWFP teams for Special Olympics

ISLAMABAD, April 7: Islamabad and NWFP teams are to leave for Lahore on Saturday to take part in Special Olympics Pakistan National Games.

Over 400 athletes and 120 volunteer coaches will be involved in the games which feature athletics and badminton.

The Islamabad squad comprises 66 athletes, 16 coaches, volunteers and parents while the NWFP team consists of 19 players and seven coaches.

The athletes will compete in 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m relay, long jump and shot put events.

Low ability athletes will contest 50m, standing broad jump and softball throw.

Three boys and three girls will appear in badminton singles and mixed doubles events.

Both the teams will leave together for Lahore from the Pakistan Sports Complex. They will be seen off by Mahfooz Elahi, coordinator of Pakistan Special Olympics.
