KARACHI: Kidnapping case

KARACHI, April 7: An anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Friday adjourned hearing of businessman kidnapping and murder trial after recording statement of defence witnesses. Aurangzaib Brohi, 25, is accused of kidnapping cloth merchant Mehboob Ali, 20, for ransom and later killing him.

Three co-accused Jehanzaib, Arif and Uzma were declared absconder in the case. Prosecution alleged that the accused after kidnapping Mehboob on August 23, 2005 demanded Rs4 million as ransom from his family. Later the ransom demand was reduced to Rs500,000.

The family of the abductee gave Rs485,000 to the captors but they killed the abductee as his family could not fulfil their demand of paying Rs500,000 to them. The throat-slit body of the victim was found lying in Soldier Bazaar.—PPI
