KARACHI, April 6: The Sindh government in a press note issued on Thursday has denied allegations levelled by Akhtar Mengal, as published in certain newspapers, against officials of the government and law enforcement agencies.
The statement said that Akhtar Mengal had tried to portray through his statement that two government officials were trying to kidnap his children, therefore, he reacted.
This statement of Mengal is a figment of his imagination, devoid of any substance of truth and is contrary to the factual position, said the govt’s press release.
It said that in fact, Mengal and his armed guards had kidnapped the two persons, of a law enforcement agency, from their place of duty at gunpoint, kept them in illegal confinement at his residence, and manhandled them using fists and butts of kalashnikov.
Both the officials were later recovered by the local police from Mengal’s residence, the govt statement added.
It appears that Mengal in order to avoid any legal action resorted to unfounded allegations with a view to cover up his illegal and unlawful activities, it said.
The official statement said that the story relating to the alleged attempt of kidnapping of his children was absolutely baseless and incorrect.
In this regard, an FIR no 170/2006 has been registered against Akhtar Mengal and others at the Darakshan Police Station, and is being investigated by senior police officials, the statement concluded.—PPI
