KARACHI: Four persons killed in various incidents

KARACHI, April 4: A builder and his security guard were shot dead in what police described was an armed robbery in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Tuesday. The TPO Gulshan said two suspects came to the booking office of an ongoing project of Pacific View Apartments in Block 3, near Kamran Chowrangi Gulistan-i-Jauhar and snatched the weapon from the security guard posted at the gate. They reportedly colleted cash and cellphones.

The security guard tried to pose resistance but the suspects opened fire killing both the security guard, Mukhtar Ahmed, and the builder, Shamim Ahmed.

However, a duty officer of the Gulistan-i-Jauhar police station said it was not clear as to what mode of transport had the suspects used in the incident.

KILLED: A young man was killed over a property dispute in Baldia town late Monday night. Police said Khalwat Khan, 22, was shot dead by his close relative in Rasheedabad area of Baldia town. The suspects using a motorcycle managed to escape from the spot.

The victim was taken to the nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police said the deceased’s cousin, Amanullah, had lodged an FIR in the case, nominating a relative.

ACCIDENT: A student, Muhammad Moosa, died after a hit-and-run pickup ran over him near Memon Goth on Monday evening.

Police said Muhammad Moosa, a BA student of the Government Degree College in Murad Memon Goth was going on his motorcycle when a pickup hit his motorcycle on the Memon Goth-Khokhrapar Road.

He was rushed to the JPMC Hospital but could not survive. His relatives were in a state of shock, as they were planning for his marriage, police quoting family sources said.

ROBBERY: Several dozen shops at the Fariya Shopping Mall were broken into by security guards posted at the mall early Tuesday morning.

Police said a mobile market had sprung up in the mall located on the Rashid Minhas Road. The security guards broke open the locks of the shops and escaped after collecting hundreds of cellphones. Before fleeing, they fixed new locks at several shops.

When the shopkeepers came in the morning, they found several shops fixed with new locks to which they didn’t had keys. Finally, after breaking open the locks, they found their respective shops empty.

The shopkeepers have nominated two security guards Abdullah and Nawab in the case.

According to the shopkeepers, they had suffered losses worth millions of rupees. The mobile market had recently opened up in the mall and was said to be doing a thriving business.

ARRESTED: The Samnabad police on Monday night arrested Shakil, son of Mushtaq, who was snatching a cellphone in Block 20.

The SHO of the Samnabad police station said that Shakil was snatching a cellphone at gunpoint from Masroor near Latif Terrace. A police party passing from the spot intercepted the bandit who was fleeing on motorcycle.

Police recovered a motorcycle (KBK-7403) and a saving certificate worth Rs0.5 million issued in the name of Raisa Khatoon, the SHO said, adding that the certificate might have been stolen in some earlier house robbery carried out by the suspects.

Fire erupts: A fire broke out in a godown in the Ramdas Building near Light House on M.A Jinnah Road on Tuesday evening. No casualty was reported in the incident, police said.

A spokesman for the fire department said the fire broke out in the godown of second-hand shoes and cloth located on the third floor of the building.

Six fire tenders were employed for two hours to control the fire. The cause of the fire and extent of the damages caused by it could not be known immediately.

As a result of the fire, traffic was disrupted on the main M.A. Jinnah Road for several hours.
