KARACHI: KU announces scholarships for computer science deptt
KARACHI, April 4: The vice-chancellor of the University of Karachi, Dr Pirzada Qasim on Tuesday announced scholarships worth Rs20 million for the deserving students of the KU’s computer science department for higher education abroad. He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a seminar on “Young entrepreneurs in information technology”, organized by the Department of Computer Science and Umaer Basha Institute of Science and Technology, KU.
Dr Pirzada also called for enhancing interaction between educational institutes and industry for mutual benefits.
He said that the KU administration was trying to create a research culture by providing research, teaching and training facilities to the students as well as teachers at the varsity and urged students to utilize all available facilities to polish their skills.
Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, Sindh IT Adviser Noman Saigol said that the provincial government was taking all possible steps for the promotion of IT education in the province.
The adviser said that efforts were underway to make IT education compulsory at the school level, which would also yield positive impacts.
KU pro-vice-chancellor Dr Akhlaq Ahmed and Dr Aqil Burney also spoke on the occasion.—APP
