Water plan for Kharif prepared

By Khaleeq Kiani

ISLAMABAD, April 2: The Indus River System Authority (Irsa) on Sunday prepared a draft water distribution plan for Kharif season as a dispute between Sindh and Punjab over sharing of water in Rabi remained unresolved. The draft would be presented to the water and power ministry on Monday for improvement and resolution of Rabi water dispute.

After final touches, it would be presented to an inter-provincial meeting, presided over by Water and Power Minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi, for formal approval.

An informal meeting of Irsa had been convened on Sunday to prepare a working plan for Kharif. Irsa chief presided over it.

Sources said the meeting reached the conclusion that about 17 per cent shortage of water had been faced during Rabi season.

However, no official was ready to say anything as to how much shortage was experienced by the two provinces.
