KARACHI: Sri Lankan president pays homage to Quaid
KARACHI, April 2: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse along with his wife visited the mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah on Sunday evening after arriving here from Lahore. The distinguished guests laid a floral wreath and observed silence for a while in honour of the founder of Pakistan.
Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapakse also wrote his impressions in the visitors’ book at the mausoleum.
The Sri Lankan President along with his wife was received by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on their arrival earlier at the airport. Sri Lankan Consul-General in Karachi, provincial ministers and secretary culture were also present on the occasion.
Later, Mahinda Rajapakse met Ishratul Ibad at the Governor’s House.
The governor apprised the guest of the development activities taking place in the province as well as measures being taken in the realms of education and health.
He also talked about trade, investment and industrial activities in the province, particularly in Karachi.
The Sri Lankan president said that his country would also strengthen its trade and economic ties with Pakistan. He appreciated the development activities taking place in Karachi.
The governor hosted a reception in their honour, which was also attended by the members of Sri Lankan delegation as well as provincial ministers, advisers and chief secretary.
After attending the reception, the guests left for Colombo. They were seen off by the governor at the airport on Sunday night. —APP
