KARACHI: Water supply resumed

KARACHI, April 1: The KWSB has resumed water supply to the city through an alternate system of the K-III project to ease the situation after supply was suspended due to the rupture of a 72 inch-dia pipeline burst last night, said a statement.

According to KWSB officials, the pipeline supplying water to the city from Dhabeji burst near Dhabeji on the night between Friday and Saturday during a power outage.

The concrete rising main No 2 burst all of sudden and the entire pump house was filled with water. Water supply to the city was immediately stopped and repair work of the damaged pipeline was in progress.

The managing director of the water board, Brig Iftikhar Haider, was himself supervising the repair work.

The KWSB officials in a statement on Saturday hoped that citizens would not face much shortage of water owing to alternate arrangements.

It may be recalled that Governor Ishratul Ibad had inaugurated the test operation of the K-III project last week for supplying additional 100mgd water to Karachi.

The repair of the burst pipeline, about 47-years old, is expected to be completed by Sunday.—PPI
