Clarification

LAHORE, March 31: The ministry of law, justice and human rights has said in a statement that a news item headlined ‘High courts planned at divisional level’ carried in Dawn’s Friday issue is based on some misunderstanding.

It said that the federal Minister of Law, Wasi Zafar, while addressing a seminar, had stated that there would be different divisions in the existing high court benches to deal with the different nature of cases i.e. commercial cases, criminal cases, civil cases, constitutional cases.

This system is followed in almost all developed countries. It does not mean the establishment of high courts at divisional level.

The chief justice will be having all the constitutional powers and this is not likely to affect the powers of the chief justice.
