KARACHI, March 28: Four persons died in two separate road accidents in different parts of the city on Tuesday. Police said that three persons including two bus drivers died in a head-on collision between two buses, one belonging to the Pakistan Steel Mills, at the entrance gate of the steel mills in the morning. At least 25 persons were injured in the accident.
According to police, one bus was leaving the Pakistan Steel Mills premises after dropping the shift while the other one was entering when they collided. The two drivers were identified as Nawaz, 45 and Murad Ali, 50, the third victim was Maqsood Ali, a policeman heading to his duty at the Steel Town police station.
Police said the seriously injured were rushed to the Pakistan Steel Hospital, where the three victims were pronounced dead.
Rest of the seriously injured passengers were referred to the Liaquat National Hospital for treatment.
Those who had suffered minor injuries were discharged after providing treatment at the Pakistan Steel Hospital.
In another accident, an unidentified 17-year-old died after a speeding bus of route (2-D) knocked him down in Solider Bazar area on Tuesday. Police nabbed the errant driver and impounded the bus.
SHOT DEAD: A man was shot dead by unknown persons, in what seemed to be a car snatching attempt in the limits of Aziz Bhatti police station on Tuesday night.
Police said that Ghulam Sarwar, 40, was passing through the area behind Baitul Mukkarum mosque, when unknown persons on a motorcycle intercepted him and opened fire on resistance. The victim was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police are investigating the case, but initial information suggested that it was a car snatching bid, said a police officer of the Aziz Bhatti police station.
