SUKKUR, March 24: A bench of the Sindh High Court, Sukkur, has summoned federal and Sindh finance secretaries on April 5 to state when funds for water supply and drainage schemes of the district will be released.

The bench, comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani and Justice Syed Zawar Hussain Jaffery, was hearing a petition filed by Lala Asad Pathan regarding release of drainage water into the River Indus.

The petitioner’s counsel said the district government had failed to resolve the issue of supply of potable water to people and release of drainage water into the river.

The district nazim told the court that Rs1.1 billion had been approved for supply of potable water and improving the drainage system in the city but the district government had received only Rs5 million of the fund.
