KARACHI: PPP slams unilateral conduct of proceedings
KARACHI, March 3: The Pakistan People’s Party has condemned the provincial government for holding ‘unilateral’ proceedings at the requisitioned session of the Sindh Assembly on Friday, and described this as ‘completely against democratic norms’.
In a statement, Sindh chief of the PPP Syed Qaim Ali Shah noted that the business of the house was run in the absence of opposition, which was observing a strike against the publication of blasphemous caricatures by European press.
He said that the government had bypassed all democratic norms, adding that under a democratic set-up, presence of opposition at decision-making forums was necessary.
He deplored that the government had taken undue advantage of absence of the combined opposition.
He pointed out that the treasury benches attended the session to get their resolutions passed, but ignored important issues brought on the agenda by the opposition members. Such issues including Kalabagh Dam, sugar price and NFC Award, he added.
Mr Shah said that the conduct of proceedings by the treasury in their own way was condemnable.
He said this had proved that the government was not interested in resolving the issues relating to the province. Rather, he added, it was bent upon ruling over the province in an imperialistic manner.—PPI
