SHEIKHUPURA, Feb 25: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) women here on Saturday held a peaceful rally against the publication of blasphemous caricatures in various European countries.
A large number of women carrying placards and banners marched through various city roads and streets. They also raised slogans.
Later, a meeting was held in the Jamaat-i-Islami office. The speakers urged the government to sever diplomatic ties with the countries responsible for blasphemy.
They asked the provincial government to release those workers arrested in riots on Feb 15 and bring the real culprits to justice for ransacking and damaging vehicles, public and government property.
The MMA leaders announced that protest would continue till the western countries tendered apology.
They appealed to masses to boycott the products imported from Norway, Denmark and others countries who had published the sacrilegious cartoons.
ENVIRONMENT: The district and tehsil governments have failed to control environment pollution caused due to emissions and effluents.
This was stated by the chairman of an NGO in a meeting here on Saturday presided over by its chairman Advocate Chaudhry Amir Afzal.
The meeting adopted a unanimous resolution urging the district and tehsil governments to focus their attention on the resolution of problem.
Mr Afzal said the local bodies’ institutions which were set up to provide basic facilities and resolve people’s problems have failed.
