PESHAWAR, Feb 24: An additional district and sessions judge on Friday granted bail to an accused in the honour-related murder of his wife on the basis of a compromise. The court, presided over by Shahid Khan, directed the applicant, Waliur Rehman, to furnish two sureties of Rs200,000 each.

The applicant is accused of killing his newly-wedded wife Parveen on Jan 11 in the jurisdiction of Mathra police station. The complainant is deceased woman’s father.

Initially, the accused had claimed that his wife had committed suicide.

However, the woman’s father registered an FIR against him stating that he had killed her because of misgivings about her character.

Under police custody, he admitted that he had killed his wife because he suspected her of having an affair with another person.

The counsel for the applicant contended that the complainant had entered into a compromise with the applicant and decided to forgive him.
