KHAIRPUR, Feb 24: Residents of Garhi Pul and Unnar colonies and the Shaikh locality took out a procession here on Friday in protest against demolition of their huts by the Khairpur taluka municipal administration.

The protesters, led by People’s Party Parliamentarians leader Zamir Shaikh and folk singer Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh, raised slogans against the TMA and blocked the road. They burnt tyres on the Garhi Pul.

They marched through different roads and held a demonstration outside the DPO office.

Talking to journalists, the protesters criticized the TMA for demolishing their huts on Thursday with the help of police.

They alleged that TMA officials, police and some private persons had tortured residents protesting against demolition of their houses.

They said that in the name of removing encroachments, they were being victimized as they were supporters of the PPP.
