Tanvir surprise leader

LAHORE, Feb 3: Tanvir Najam, a ten handicapper from Lahore Gymkhana emerged as first day leader after posting a net card of six-under-par-66 in the 22nd Governor’s Cup golf amateur event at Lahore Gymkhana course on Friday.

He carded birdies on the 5,11, and 14 holes and lost strokes on 2,3,4,8,10,12 and 18. Asad Khan of the host club and Tashfeen Ashraf of Garrison Club are only one stroke behind the leader. At 68,Ali Anwar Khan is occupying the third position.

Amer Mehmood and Tariq Ali Chaudhry were bracketed at 70. Other golfers who played under 71 are Wajid Sethi, I.N.Khokar and Ahmad Sajid.

In the gross section, Imran Ahmed leads with a round of 72.

Tariq Ali Chaudhry of Sialkot and Tashfeen Ashraf are two strokes behind. Aadil Jehangir managed a round of 75.

The ladies and seniors competition will commence on Saturday.
