QUETTA, Feb 3: Provincial Senior Minister Maulana Abdul Wasay has assured the opposition that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal will support its move to requisition a session of the Balochistan assembly to discuss the situation in the province, with particular reference to Dera Bugti and Kohlu.

He said the MMA would first discuss the matter with Chief Minister Jam Mohammed Yousuf.

The minister told Dawn on Friday that the leader of the opposition in the assembly, Kachkol Ali, and parliamentary leader of the Pukthunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Rahim Ziaratwal, had met him and sought his cooperation in requisitioning a session.

He said he had told the opposition leaders that the MMA favoured a discussion on the overall situation in the province, including Dera Bugti and Kohlu, to develop consensus on ways of solving the problems.

In reply to a question, he said the requisition could be filed before Feb 27, when the governor had summoned a session.

Mr Kachkol Ali said that he and Mr Ziaratwal had met Maulana Wasay to discuss the Wadh issue and during the meeting he had told the minister that people in the province were worried about the situation in Dera Bugti and Kohlu.

He asserted that people were also unhappy about the inaction of the assembly.

He condemned the arrest of Dera Bugti district nazim’s brother in Karachi on Friday and said it was tantamount to violation of democratic and human rights.
