KARACHI, Feb 3: A division bench of the Sindh High Court, comprising Justices Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Mohammad Athar Saeed, raised the amount of compensation decreed in favour of the legal heirs of an accident victim to Rs 2 million.
The decree was issued by a single judge against a transporter and the provincial transport department in a Rs 3.5 million lawsuit filed by Ms Najma Parveen, whose husband, Mohammad Yaqoob, was killed by a bus on route No 9-C at Sharea Faisal on Dec 18, 1991, due to rash and negligent driving. It asked the bus owner and the transport department to compensate the heirs jointly or severally and the defendants preferred an appeal against it.
Upholding the impugned judgment, the bench ordered that the compensation be enhanced by Rs100,000 for the plaintiff’s loss of association. Advocate Nasir Maqsood appeared for the plaintiff-respondent. The suit was filed under the Fatal Accidents Act.
The same bench allowed an appeal by Anjuman Jamiatul Akhwan against lease of shops No 33 and 34 at Akhwan Centre, Saddar, by the KBCA and the revenue department.
JUDGMENT RESERVED: The Sindh High Court on Friday reserved judgment on appeal of three men against their conviction in a triple murder case, agency adds.
Mir Mohammad alias Miro, Khair Mohammad alias Khairo, Lal Mohammad alias Laloo and Yousuf were sentenced to death by additional district and sessions court West Karachi on Dec 29, 2001.
They were found guilty of killing three persons Osman, Karim Bux and Mohammad Siddique.
