‘Governance is weakest link’

KARACHI, Jan 29: Former federal finance minister and one of the founding members of the Pakistan People’s Party, Dr Mubashir Hasan, has said the system of governance in Pakistan is becoming weaker and the contract between the state and the people is slowly vanishing.

In a wide-ranging Dawn Dialogue, Dr Hassan said he was not satisfied with the performance of the political parties either and suggested that the country “really needs a new political party” because it is not possible to reform a political party.

Another problem is that the people think that the government is not sovereign. It is an agent of the United States, and they don’t like the US.
