RHC doctor, staff away from work

Published January 11, 2006

NAROWAL, Jan 10: The doctor and administrative staff of the Qila Ahmadabad rural health centre are rarely found on duty. Residents of the area complained while speaking to Dawn about the frequent absence of the RHC staff and doctor. They say Dr Muhammad Nawaz is running his private clinic and stay away from the RHC.

The dispenser, they say, visits the health centre for few hours and that, too, after two to three days.

A few years ago Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had also visited the RHC and found all the staff absent from duty. He had suspended the staff but the incumbent officials are following in the footsteps of the predecessors.

The people also complain that garbage littered in the lawns of the RHC causes dirt and vermin. They have demanded that the authorities concerned should take stock of the situation and order stern action against the negligent staff of the RHC.

Dr Nawaz was not available for comments.
