HYDERABAD, Jan 5: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has directed the Sindh Public Service Commission to ensure that appointments are made on merit and in a transparent way.

He maintained that the Sindh government believed in encouraging talented manpower and eliminating unemployment in the society.

The SPSC administration briefed the chief minister about performance of the association at its head office here on Wednesday.

Dr Rahim said provincial departments had been directed to get vacancies filled through the SPSC to maintain merit and transparency in the recruitment procedure.

He said that quality education and recruitment on merit would prove instrumental in development of the province.

He said that to ensure transparency and merit in the recruitment process, the Sindh government was spending a huge amount to run the organization and added that the SPSC would be further strengthened.

Earlier, SPSC chairman Mohammad Hassan Bhutto briefed the chief minister on performance of the commission, formulation of rules, implementation of recruitment procedure and maintenance of transparency and merit.

JSMM PROTEST: Activists of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz staged a sit-in outside the press club here on Thursday to protest against detention of party leaders.

They also raised slogans against the Kalabagh dam and the army operation in Balochistan.

The protesters, including women and children, alleged that party leaders had been illegally detained. They demanded withdrawal of cases against the party chairman.

They appealed to human rights organizations, HRCP chairperson Asma Jehangir and leaders of nationalist parties to raise their voice against the detention of the JSMM leaders.

CPP: Communist Party of Pakistan secretary-general Imdad Qazi has demanded that the operation in Balochistan should be stopped forthwith and the matter should be resolved through negotiations with representatives of the province.

Speaking at a meeting of the party’s district committee in Naseem Nagar here on Thursday, he further demanded that Kalabagh dam project should be shelved because it would lead to anarchy in the country.
