KARACHI, Dec 23: Five people were killed in separate incidents in various parts of the city on Friday, police said. An elderly man was gunned down by unknown persons at the steps of a mosque in New Karachi while coming out after offering the Friday prayers.

Police said Haji Siddiqui, 65, was coming out of the Masjid Farooq-i-Azam in Sector 5-E, New Karachi, when unknown persons on a motorcycle opened fire at him and fled.

He was wounded and taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police said family members took the body without legal formalities.

Police suspected the killing to be the result of some business rivalry.

A daily wager was killed after being kidnapped by unknown persons in Nazimabad area. His body was recovered from near the Gujjar Nullah on Friday morning.

The victim was identified as Muhammad Anwer, 33. His body bore a bullet wound in the temple.

Police said the deceased was a resident of Teen Hati and used to sell haleem to earn his living. He was kidnapped some time late Thursday night and his body was recovered on Friday morning.

Police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem examination. The victim was identified from his identity card found from his possession.

SHOT DEAD: A shopkeeper was shot dead by unknown persons in Sachal area on Friday.

Police said Niaz Ali Jafri, 26, was sitting at his grocery shop when unknown persons on a motorcycle pulled up and opened fire at him before fleeing.

The victim was rushed to the nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Later, the body was sent to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for post-mortem examination.

Police said that a few days back, the deceased had a dispute with some people of the area. The killing might be a reaction of that dispute, they added. Investigation is being carried out in the case, police added.

KILLED: The body of an unidentified man was recovered from the property of the Water and Sanitation Department in the limits of Manghopir police station on Friday.

Police said the hands and face of the victim in his mid 20’s were charred. Police shifted the body to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.

DIES: A twelve-year-old boy died of a stray bullet in Garden area Thursday night.

Police said Muhammad Yousuf, 12, was going to buy breakfast when a stray bullet from the celebratory firing being held at a marriage ceremony hit him.

The boy was rushed to the Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police have registered a case and arrested the brother of the groom.

ARRESTED: The two anti-crime cells have nabbed seven bandits and recovered 176 cellphones and other snatched articles from their possession in separate arrests.

The Anti-Violent Crime Cell arrested Syed Manzoor, Shoaib Alam, Rehan Alam from Garden area and recovered 170 cellphones, two motorcycles, which they had snatched from the Nabi Bux area. Three TT pistols were also recovered by the police.
