Cambridge exam system to continue

LAHORE, Dec 6: Punjab Education Minister Imran Masood has said the Cambridge examination system of O and A-levels will continue. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Mr Masood said the book having a poem on President Bush had been banned and removed from the curricula, while the publishers concerned had been blacklisted. He said the textbook board policy was also being reviewed.

The minister said the academic session would begin in September and composite matriculation examination system had been restored. He said the number of multiple choice questions (MCQs) was being increased in the examinations to improve education standard and quality.

PU: The Punjab University will launch a postgraduate diploma and certificate courses in transportation and logistic management.

This was decided at a meeting of the Pakistan section of Chartered Institute of Logistic and Transportation Management, UK, with vice-chancellor Arshad Mahmood in the chair here on Tuesday.

Realizing the need for better transportation and logistic management in Pakistan, the VC said there was a consensus that the PU would offer short courses in this field of study. The courses would be upgraded at postgraduate level.

Hailey College of Commerce Principal Chaudhry Nazir Ahmed, IBA Director Prof Dr Ehsan Malik, IAS Director Dr Zafar Iqbal Jadoon and registrar Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan were also present.

BEST TEACHERS: The vice-chancellor awarded shields to the best teachers of the varsity’s academic departments at a ceremony here at the Institute of Bio-Chemistry and Bio Technology on New Campus on Tuesday.

The shields were awarded on the basis of teachers’ evaluation by students. The teachers were Labiba Sheikh and Ahmed Farhan of IBA, Dr Kanwal Ameen of Library Science Department, Tahir Sarwar of English Language and Literature, Ali Raza Tahir of Philosophy, Iram Khalid of Political Science, Muhammad Zakria Zakar of Sociology and Iqbal Chawla of History Department.

Meanwhile, Institute of Education and Research director Prof Dr Munawar Sultana Mirza has been given BS-22.
