JSQM says Sindh will not accept Kalabagh dam

NAWABSHAH, Dec 6: Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz chairman Bashir Qureshi has reiterated his party’s opposition to the Kalabagh dam and said people of Sindh will not accept the project. He was speaking at a meeting of party workers at the residence of district JSQM press secretary Dr Sham Lal in Gharibabad here on Tuesday.

Mr Qureshi said water situation in Sindh would be aggravated if the dam was constructed.

He asked party workers to be ready for a struggle for rights of people of Sindh.

District JSQM president Hashim Leghari, secretary Ghulam Sarwar Aarijo and other leaders said sugarcane growers in Sindh were not being paid a fair price for their produce. They regretted that sugar mills were hiring labourers from Punjab, instead of appointing local people. They warned that they would stage sit-ins outside sugar mills if local labourers were not appointed.

ARRESTED: Police arrested a motorcycle snatcher and recovered two motorcycles and a pistol from his possession here on Tuesday.

The A-section police arrested Aijaz Pirzado after an encounter in Bhangwar Colony.

A-section police station SHO Ghulam Nabi Kharal said five people were standing on the Bhangwar colony road and when police reached there, they opened fire. He said police returned the fire. Aijaz Pirzado was arrested after the encounter and his accomplices escaped.

The SHO claimed that the gang used to sell stolen motorcycles in Punjab and Balochistan.
