Video and music shops attacked in Bajaur

By Our Correspondent

KHAAR (Bajaur Agency), Nov 14: Political authorities closed video and music shops here after a spree of bomb attacks and asked shopkeepers throughout the Bajaur Agency on Monday to wind up their businesses within a week. The administration also arrested owners of two video shops after their shops in a shopping centre in the Siddiqabad locality near the agency headquarters town were blown up last night. Eight other shops in the centre were damaged in the blasts.

Two shopkeepers, identified as Khan Jan and Qasim, were held for questioning.

Under the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR), the political administration can detain a tribesman for interrogation if his house or shop is attacked.

Officials said the administration closed video and music shops after tribal elders and religious leaders asked them to do so in order to maintain law and order. Sources said a number of religious organizations had threatened attacks against video and music shops.
