Captives freed on president’s orders

GUJRANWALA, Nov 3: As many as 257 captives of the central jail were released by the jail authorities following the president’s pardon on the occasion of Eid. This was stated by District Jail Superintendent Malik Shaukat Feroze here on Thursday. He said four women and three children were among them.

He said the district and sessions judge also visited the jail before Eid and ordered to release about 28 prisoners involved in minor cases.

Meanwhile, a condemned prisoner was released when a division bench of the Lahore High Court accepted his appeal.

The jail authorities released him. a day before the Eid.

FAKE MAGISTRATE: A fake magistrate was caught red-handed by police when he was checking the price lists of shopkeepers for extortion in Ladheywala village on Thursday.

Reports said Hassan Shahzad posed himself as a judicial magistrate and extorted money from shopkeepers in the shape of fine for not displaying price lists at their shops and overcharging.

The police on suspicion arrested Shahzad who confessed to crime during interrogation. A case has been registered against him.

ACQUITTAL: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 on Friday acquitted four more accused of killing of Ahmadies in Mandi Bahauddin after the police declared them innocent.

Police said Rab Nawaz, Ghulam Husain, Muhammad Aslam and Muhammad Asif who, were arrested in the case, were found innocent during investigation.

Judge Mujahid Mustaqim ordered their release.
