Pakistani drivers hurt in Kandahar blast

KANDAHAR, Oct 14: An explosion caused by a bomb planted on a fuel truck destroyed eight tankers carrying fuel for a US base in Afghanistan, witnesses said on Friday.

Two Pakistani truck drivers were wounded in Thursday night’s explosion at a check point near Kandahar airport, where US-led troops are stationed, they said.

No body claimed responsibility for the attack but suspicion fell on Taliban rebels, who have in the past attacked convoys carrying fuel or other items for US forces in Afghanistan.

The blast is the latest attack the south and east where nearly two dozen people, including five local aid workers and two US soldiers, have been killed in the past 10 days in attacks by militants.—Reuters
