Pakistan believes in harmonious world, says Musharraf

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 3: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Monday said Pakistan strongly believed in harmony and peaceful coexistence with all countries of the world on the basis of sovereign equality and mutual respect.

The president in his message read out at the graduation parade ceremony of No 115 General Duty Pilot and No 61 Engineering Courses at the Pakistan Air Force Academy, Risalpur, said the government remained committed to strengthening the capabilities of PAF.

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Ehsanul Haq was the chief guest on the occasion, says a press release issued by the PAF public relations department here.

“You should be justifiably proud to have a service that has a glorious history embellished with sterling achievements and great sacrifices of our illustrious predecessors,” said the president.

“Thanks to their vision and dedicated efforts, PAF today enjoys the reputation as one of the respected air forces of the world. Now it is your turn to play your role towards achievements of the mission of the PAF and bring more laurels to it,” he said.

In his address to the parade, Gen Ehsanul Haq said: “Pakistan does not nurture any hostile designs against any country. However, we cannot afford to lower our guard and need to be ready for any eventualities.”

He said the country had to maintain minimum but strong deterrence level to ward off any misadventures against our airspace.

Gen Haq said PAF had always lived up to the nation’s trust during war and peace, and would never disappoint its fellow citizens in the future as well.

Earlier, on his arrival at the academy, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Kaleem Sadaat received Gen Haq.

The chief guest reviewed the parade and presented the Quaid-i-Azam Banner to the No 4 Squadron — the new Champion Squadron.

This was followed by award of flying badges and branch insignias to the graduating aviation cadets.

The CJCSC’s Trophy for the best performance in General Service Training was won by Aviation Cadet Academy Under Officer Ahmad Sami.

The Chief of the Air Staff’s Trophy for the best performance in Engineering Discipline was awarded to Naval Cadet Squadron Under Officer Usman Zafar, while Aviation Cadet Sergeant Muhammad Asif Iqbal lifted the Chief of the Air Staff trophy for the best performance in flying.
