District senior event starts tomorrow

KARACHI, Sept 3: As many as 81 teams, representing 11 regions, will compete for honours in the PCB Inter-district Senior Cricket Championship which gets under way from Monday with 37 two-day fixtures across length and breadth of the country.

Most of the regional events will conclude with the Sept 17-18 matches while some will continue for a few more days until the champions are decided in those regions in this rather tedious tournament.

Karachi region will be fought out between seven teams, followed by Lahore (six), Quetta (nine), Hyderabad (12), Peshawar (five), Abbottabad (11), Multan (12), Faisalabad (five), Sialkot (five), Rawalpindi (five) and Islabad (four).

First round fixtures (Sept 5-6):

Karachi region: Zone-I v Zone-II (Students Sports Ground); Zone-III v Zone-IV (Pak Star Ground); Zone-V v Zone-VI (TMC Ground).

Lahore region: East Zone Whites v East Zone Blues (LCCA Ground); West Zone Whites v West Zone Blues (Mughalpura Institute Ground); North Zone Whites v North Zone Blues (Railways Stadium).

Peshawar region: Peshawar v Swat (Arbab Niaz Stadium, Peshawar); Nowshera v Dir Lower (Gymkhana Ground, Peshawar).

Islamabad region: Islamabad v Azad Jammu Kashmir (Diamond Cricket Ground, Islamabad); Gujrat v Northern Areas (Zahoor Elahi Stadium, Gujrat).

Rawalpindi region: Rawalpindi v Jhelum (Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium); Attock v Chakwal (ARL Ground).

Hyderabad region: Larkana v Shikarpur (Shahi Bagh Ground, Shikarpur); Sukkur v Khairpur (Rani Bagh Ground, Hyderabad); Nawabshah v Jacobabad (Nawabshah Stadium); Hyderabad v Sanghar (Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad); Thatta Mirpurkhas (Mirpurkhas Stadium); Dadu v Badin (Makli Cricket Stadium, Thatta).

Faisalabad region: Sargodha v Bhakkar (Sports Stadium, Sargodha); Jhang v Kasur (Chenab College Ground, Jhang).

Multan region: Rahimyar Khan v Rajanpur (Mahmood Stadium, Rahimyar Khan); Muzaffargarh v Layyah (Rajanpur Cricket Stadium); Bahawalpur v Dera Ghazi Khan (Bahawalpur Stadium); Multan v Bahawalnagar (Multan Cricket Stadium); Sahiwal v Vehari (Montgomery Club Ground, Sahiwal); Okara v Khanewal (Gymkhana Ground, Okara).

Quetta region: Naushki v Pishin (Cricket Ground, Naushki); Sibi v Killa Abdullah (Sadiq Cricket Ground, Chaman); Quetta v Turbat (Bugti Stadium Quetta); Kalat v Naseerabad (Shola Ground, Quetta).

Sialkot region: Sheikhupura v Sialkot (Sheikhupura Stadium); Hafizabad v Mandi Bahauddin (Jinnah Stadium, Gujranwala).

Abbottabad region: Dera Ismail Khan v Tank (D.I. Khan Stadium); Kohat v Bannu (Kohat Stadium); Abbottabad v Haripur (Abbottabad Stadium); Swabi v Mansehra (Swabi Cricket Stadium); Mardan v Dir Upper (University Ground, Peshawar).
