Funds for fish harbour expansion sought

By Saleem Shahid

QUETTA, Aug 10: The Pasni Fish Harbour Authority (PFHA) has sought financial assistance from the federal and provincial governments for the expansion of the harbour.

The board of directors of the authority, which met here on Wednesday with Balochistan Minister for Gwadar Development Authority and PFHA Syed Sher Jan Baloch in the chair, discussed various issues of the Pasni harbour and decided to expand it in order to provide maximum facilities to the fishermen of the area and people involved in this business.

It was observed that the PFHA was facing financial crisis and needed more funds for its expansion plan. The members of the board suggested that the federal and provincial governments should be approached for getting special funds for the plan.

It was also decided that the provincial finance department would also be approached for a budget for the Pasni fish harbour for the year 2005-06. The meeting decided to purchase a new crane for fishermen from the income of the harbour.

The board of directors also discussed the regularization of ad hoc cadre employees of the harbour and decided to provide jobs to the children of those employees who died during services. A housing scheme for the employees was also approved in the meeting. The meeting suggested preparation of a plan for establishing a shrimp form in the Budak area of Pasni.

It approved various applications in connection with the fish processing zone. The services of a consultant would be hired for the construction of a shopping centre in the zone and a staff housing scheme.
