SANGHAR, Aug 7: A total of 1,929 candidates are in the run for 55 union councils of the district in the local body elections. There are 823 candidates for Muslim general seats of men and 242 for seats of women, 348 candidates for seats of peasants/ workers (men), 176 for seats of peasants/workers (women), 150 for minority seats and 190 pairs of nazims and naib nazims in the district.

Five main panels are: Awam Dost Panel, Faqir Dost Panel, Haq Parast Group, Al-Falah Group of the Jamaat-i-Islami and the Junejo Group of Shah Nawaz Junejo family.

The main contest is expected between the FDP and the ADP. ——BoC
