Convoy escapes bomb attack

By Our Correspondent

MIRAMSHAH, Aug 6: Suspected militants blew up a small bridge on the main Bannu-Miramshah Road on Saturday, slightly damaging a paramilitary vehicle. The suspects had apparently targeted a paramilitary convoy when it was passing through the bridge. Two vehicles had crossed the bridge and others were approaching it when the remote-controlled device exploded. No one on the convoy was reported hurt.

However, sources said that a teenage boy Arshad was injured when a shrapnel that had apparently flown from the blast site hit him at his house in the nearby Civil Colony.

TWO ARRESTED: Meanwhile, security forces arrested two suspects and recovered from their possession an unspecified number of hand-grenades and magazines when they allegedly tried to enter the cadet college at Razmak where NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman was attending a parents day function on Saturday.

The suspects, identified as Nasimullah and Mirwali, were taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation. Speaking at a jirga at the governor’s cottage later, Mr Rehman assured tribesmen that the area would be developed in all respects if they helped the government in maintaining peace there.

Fata MNA Maulana Nek Zaman, Senator Matin Shah, 200 elders from the Wazir tribe and 100 from the Mahsud tribe attended the jirga.

Referring to immigration laws, the governor said that even the Muslims going for Hajj needed valid papers to enter Saudi Arabia. “How can the government allow foreign elements to move about freely in the country without having any travel and entry documents?” he asked.
