Demand for action against land mafia

QUETTA August 5: Vice-Chairperson Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (Balochistan Chapter) Malik Zahoor Shahwani has urged the government to take stern action against encroachers and land mafia which enjoy backing of corrupt tehsil officials and police.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he alleged that police was hesitant to apprehend kidnappers, car-lifters, encroachers, dacoits and corrupt government officials.

He said three women were abducted during the last several days in Sariab area but the concerned police station staff was reluctant to apprehend culprits who were wandering openly.

He said that government was not happy over the fact finding report of the HRCP Balochistan which related to lawlessness, abduction for ransom, child abuse, kidnapping of women, minority rights, excesses against political activists and extra-constitutional arrests in the province.—Correspondent
