ISLAMABAD, July 27: The Central Board of Revenue has asked all regional commissioners of income tax and director generals of large taxpayers units to accept quarterly statements for the quarter ending June 30, 2005 on old format. An official announcement of the CBR issued on Wednesday said that the old format would also be acceptable up to July 30, 2005 to facilitate withholding agents.

The decision was taken keeping in view the hardship facing the withholding agents in filing new quarterly statement notified vide SRO641 of 2005 issued on July 20, 2005. Various representations, including from the Karachi Tax Bar Association, had referred the hardship faced by those tax withholding agents with the electronic data processing (EDP) environment or already submitting statements electronically using software provided by the CBR/PRAL.

The announcement made it clear that this concession was only for the quarterly statements ending June 30, 2005. The annual statement for the year ending June 30, 2005 was to be submitted on the new format without fail.
