LARKANA: Demand to stop release of drain water into canals

By Our Correspondent

LARKANA, July 19: Speakers at a dialogue here on Tuesday urged the government for early legislation to stop release of drainage water into canals. The Network for Consumer Protection, Islamabad, and the Health and Education Society, Larkana, jointly organized the programme. They said the element of punishment must be incorporated in the legislation against official negligence to check intermixing of water supply with the drainage system.

The speakers opposed the privatization of drinking water sector. They proposed construction of filter plants in each union council.

Muhsan Babbar said Sindh was confronting a big problem of safe drinking water so people should profusely participate in shaping the national policy for drinking water.

Ammanullah Shaikh, HRCP district coordinator Siddik Abro, Dr Zulfikar Rahujo, Abida Abro, Amina, Talib Shah, Aslam Bhutto, Qazi Aijaz, Abbas Khuhro, Sarmad Chandio and Ayaz Abro spoke on the occasion.
