KARACHI: ARD, MMA agree on seat adjustment


KARACHI, July 9: The Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) and the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) have agreed in principle on electoral adjustments on 42 seats of four towns of former district central, said Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan leader Qazi Ahmad Noorani. Addressing a meeting about the adjustments, he said patriotic and democratic citizens would not allow the city to be kidnapped, adding that all political parties would foil such evil designs, said a statement on Saturday.

The meeting discussed a common strategy on 13 seats of New Karachi Town, 10 of North Nazimabad, eight of Gulberg Town, 11 of Liaquatabad Town, besides agreeing to field common panels of nazims, naib nazims and councillors in all UCs.

The statement added that a combined meeting of the ARD and the MMA would soon be held to finalize the names of possible common candidates.

President of the PPP District Central Syed Aijaz Ahmed Shah, Deputy Secretary Ismael Khatry, General Secretary Abdul Samad Gabool, and JUP leaders Muhammad Hanif Sarwari, Anwar Ahmad Sheikh, Masood Chishti participated in the meeting.—PPI
