FAISALABAD, July 3: PML-N’s Punjab president Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa has said his party will contest the local bodies polls on all seats by making adjustments with other opposition parties including the Pakistan Peoples Party and Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal.
Talking to journalists here on Sunday after condoling the death of the wife of PML-N’s city president and former MPA Khawaja Muhammad Islam, Mr Khosa alleged the government had hatched conspiracies to rig the local elections but the PML-N would give a tough time to the ‘official’ nominees.
He said despite announcement by the Election Commission that the polls would be held on non-party basis, Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi and other senior officeholders of the ruling PML were making open claims about the success of the candidates fielded by their party which was a violation of the election rules.
He said the PML-N would prefer to go to the public against ‘misdeeds’ of the rulers instead of approaching the courts, alleging that the rulers had no respect for courts.
Mr Khosa said Sharif family would return to the country with the people’s support instead of striking a deal with the rulers.
He said in the light of Nawaz Sharif’s instructions, relief camps would be established in all the rain and flood effected areas of the country. The party would also start a protest movement soon against the increase in petroleum products’ prices, he added.
To a question, he said the law and order situation in the country had deteriorated, the people were committing suicides due to financial problems and the number of jobless youth increased manifold due to ill-conceived policies of the rulers.
He alleged that Mukhtaran Mai’s case was investigated wrongly and now the government was claiming to provide justice to the rape-victim by using all resources. He also alleged that the rulers protected the ‘culprit’ involved in Dr Shazia rape case and forced the victim to leave the country. This ‘dual policy’ was a stigma on the face of so-called champions of justice and protectors of people’s honour, he added.
