PESHAWAR, June 30: A five-member delegation of Indian judges on Thursday appreciated certain steps taken by the Peshawar district judiciary, especially separation of pre-trial and trial magistrates. The delegation, which is on a three-day visit to the NWFP, includes three superior court judges, Justice Madan Lokur, Justice Mukundakam Sharma and Justice Shav Narayan Dhingra and officials of the Department of Justice, New Delhi, Devdas Chhotray and Alurang Bhalla.

The delegation was received at the judicial complex by the Peshawar district and sessions judge, Shahjehan Akhundzada.

They went around different courts and sections of the complex and put various queries to judicial officers.

The visitors showed keen interest in the district judicial system and inquired about the separation of the pre-trial and trial magistrates here.

They stated that interaction between the judiciary of the two countries would help in understanding problems faced by both the sides and positive steps taken by them.

They also took interest in the steps taken for early disposal of cases.

Members of the delegation exchanged views on various issues with district and sessions judges and judicial officials, including additional member of the high court inspection team, Tariq Sohail, additional sessions judges, Shehbar Khan and Tariq Yousafzai, civil judge Waqar Ahmad Khan and judicial magistrate Malik Amjid Raheem.

Waqar Ahmad made a presentation to the guests and said that last year the district judiciary had disposed of 41,110 cases. —Bureau Report
