ANP seeks donors’ help for flood victims

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 28: The Awami National Party (ANP) has accused the provincial and federal governments of doing little for flood victims of eight districts of the NWFP and urged international donor agencies to extend help to the affected people.

Speaking at a news conference at a hotel here on Tuesday, ANP information secretary Zahid Khan termed the Rs100 million assistance announced by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz as peanuts and said that the MMA-led provincial government had failed to provide sufficient assistance or get adequate funds from the federal government.

He said the provincial government did not pay heed to early warnings about the flood situation. If timely measures were not taken the upcoming monsoon would play havoc with the districts already hit by floods.
