Minister admits to taking bribes over arms deals


AUGSBURG (Germany), June 28: A former German junior defence minister admitted in court on Tuesday to accepting kickbacks from major arms sales in the early 1990s. Ludwig-Holger Pfahls, who served as state secretary for defence from 1987 to 1992 under then chancellor Helmut Kohl, testified at the start of his trial on corruption and tax evasion charges that he had taken a total of about 1.5 million euros (1.8 million dollars) from arms dealer Karlheinz Schreiber.—AFP
